The Cathedral of Notre Dame in Reim, France is an amazing tribute to God, to architectural genius, and to France's longevity. The Cathedral was built in the 13th century taking 100 years to build. The Cathedral was the site of at least 25 coronations of French Kings.
It was targeted by the Germans in World War 1. Residents tried to protect the cathedral, placing sand bags at the base, which did help to protect the lower statues, but many of the magnificent features were lost. More than 300 shells fell on the cathedral during the war, melting away the iron roof and wooden interior.
Many of the windows were restored and the Cathedral was rebuilt after WWI bringing it to its former glory.
When I was in France, I visited several cathedrals. This cathedral, in my judgement, is the most magnificent and beautiful.
