Walking down Maine Street in Quincy, Illinois, takes a visitor back in time. There is a lot of architecture from the 1800s with a few newer ones nestled in but in keeping with the historic district. Across the street from this image is Washington Park, where the 6th Lincoln-Douglas debate was held.Thousands of people flooded this area to hear the two famous politicians go at each other. This street was filled with people, horses, carriages and electrified by the excitement of the day.
Today, the park remains a focal point in Quincy, IL hosting art fairs, farmers' markets and Blues festivals. The buildings in this image have seen historic events and everyday occasions. It is a wonderful place to visit!
