This crucifix is found in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Quincy, Illinois.
Throughout the Church year, Christians celebrate the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the son of God. Holy Week occurs during the days leading up to Easter, the day of Christ's resurrection. On Thursday of Holy week, many Christians remember Christ at the Last Supper- they were celebrating Passover. It was to be the last meal Jesus would have with His apostles. Shortly after the meal, He was betrayed, judged and condemned to death on the following day, which Christians call Good Friday. As horrendous as His death was, it was His sacrifice as the Lamb of God that brought redemption to the world. Easter follows, when He arose from the dead which is the holiest day in the Christian year.

Along with many others, this is a favorite of mine for so many reasons: Christ's sunken belly, his red garment, truly His tortured death has transformed itself into an elegant death if it were possible...but it is! Thank you for sharing!

Faith is a fundamental part of life, and leaning on faith in difficult situations can help us overcome even the most trying times in life. Your extraordinary piece of art which represents, hope and faith is so soothing for the soul, Pamela!
