This flag is found at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois

The United States looks at July 4, 1776 as its birthday - the day of signing the declaration of independence from Great Britain and rule of King George III. The king was continually taxing the colonies for everything they received from England. The taxes became more oppressive, and the king's armies were more aggressive to the colonists. Things became intolerable until the colonists finally had enough at which point they declared their independence from England. This was not received well, leading England and the colonies into the Revolutionary War. Ultimately, the colonies were victorious, beating back the "Red Coats" and winning the war for the freedom as an independent country- the United States of America.
