Description
Luther Fine Art presents this image which is perfect for home, office or gifts.
In 1855, German settlers in Quincy, Illinois, built a brewery which was named Dick's Brewery. It was a very large business, becoming the largest brewery in the country, larger than Anheiser Busch. This image is just one part of the block long building, The beer was placed in the Racking Room to ferment.
Imagine the fun every fall during October Fest! Lots of families, friends, great food and off course, Dick's Beer.
The company thrived for decades, but struggled during Prohibition. It was then surpassed by its rival, Anheiser Busch, down the river in St. Louis. The Brewery closed in the early 1950s.
There are tunnels and rooms underground in these buildings where is was cool year round. Legend has it that the owner had a tunnel from his house to the brewery so he did not have to go outside to go to work. This building is being restored with some new business as well as an art gallery.
